Confirm both labels before filling any cell. Each answer here sits at the crossing of a specific row category and column category — satisfying only one label is a common mistake. Check both before committing.
Start with the cell whose both labels feel most obvious. If you know the row theme is animals and the column theme is colours, "RED" or "BLUE" may fill instantly — that confirmed cell then narrows every other entry in the same row and column simultaneously.
Use letter count as a hard veto. The grid fixes the length of each answer. If your best guess is one letter too long or too short, discard it immediately — the right word is somewhere in your vocabulary, just shorter or longer than you first assumed.
Work row by row once you have a beachhead. After confirming the easiest cell, complete that row before switching axes — staying on one theme at a time keeps your working memory focused and prevents cross-contamination errors.
